Abstract

Since 2006, DORIS receivers of the DGXX and then DGXX-S generations have featured 7 Processing Units, capable of discriminating and performing measurements on signals from 7 different beacons. With the current distribution of the DORIS beacon network, in certain areas and for low Earth orbits such as Sentinel-6, it is possible to observe up to 10 beacons in co-visibility. The receivers have modes for selecting these beacons to best meet the needs of missions and users. The selection can be based on the received power level, the Doppler frequency, be random, or be optimized by the DIODE navigation software. The chosen mode impacts not only which beacons are observed, but also the number of measurements performed, the duration of a pass, and the continuity of measurements during that pass.
Here, we propose to present these selection modes, their impact, and to open the discussion to the needs of the Genesis mission, for which up to 20 beacons may be visible simultaneously.Keywords: DORIS, Beacon designation
