Subject: [ids.analysis.forum] Call for abstracts: 60-day cycle in J1 and J2

Dear colleagues,

We'd like to remind you of the deadline for submitting OSTST abstracts, today. Since you have all been active in the discussion surrounding the 59-day cycle in the J1 and J2 sea level, we would ask you to provide input during the discussion at the splinter session on this topic at the OSTST. Since this is a splinter session, you are not required to fill a full time slot. All inputs and openings for discussion are welcome.

You are kindly invited to submit your abstract for papers (oral or poster) to the splinter session "60-day cycle variations in Jason-1 and Jason-2" that will be held during OSTST meeting in Lisbon, Portugal, 18-20 October 2010.

As most of you are aware, quite large variations in sea level with a cycle of 59 to 60 days have been observed in the collinear differences between Jason-1 and Jason-2 as well as between TOPEX and Jason-1. The variation has also been seen in sea level differences between Envisat and Jason-1. 

Several speculations have been floated regarding the cause of this variation (orbit determination errors, center-of-mass offset due to solar panel flexing, tide model errors, instrument thermal signature, ...) but none seemed to have been conclusive yet.

Since this is a topic of great concern to the construction and quality of the decadal sea level record, we strongly encourage those who have looked into this topic to present their results at the OSTST meeting in Lisbon. We intent to keep enough space for debate, which may allow us to either narrow down or even solve the problem right there.

Note that the deadline for abstract submission is this Friday, 18 June.
