Dear colleagues, We are pleased to announce a new DORIS mission in orbit: Successful launch of Sentinel-6A/ Michael Freilich on 2020/11/21. Sentinel-6 is part of the Copernicus Programme and is a result of an intern= ational cooperation between Esa, Eumetsat, European Union, Noaa, Cnes and N= asa/JPL. Also known as Jason Continuity of Service (Jason-CS), the Sentinel= -6 satellites is the follow-on to Jason-3, thus ensuring the continuity of = operational oceanographic services on the reference orbit beyond 2030. Sentinel6 is placed in a drifting orbit relative to JASON3 and will be stop= ped 30 seconds behind JASON3 within 27 days after launch (18/12/2020), then= the tandem phase will continue over the year 2021. The DORIS receiver has been ON since Wednesday, 25/11, and initial orbit re= sults are encouraging. After a validation phase, the DORIS data should be available on the IDS dat= a centers around mid-January. We'll let us know as soon as these data are available on IDS Data Centers a= nd we will keep you informed on the status of the mission. Further information on Sentinel-6 is available on the following web sites: Aviso-Sentinel-6, CNES-Sentinel-6, Best regards, Pascale Ferrage IDS
