Subject: HY-2C  new DORIS mission

Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce the successful launch of the Chinese satellite HY-2C on Monday, September 21, 
expanding the constellation of International Doris Service<https://ids-doris.org/>'s (IDS) contributing satellites.

HY-2 (HaiYang means "ocean") is a series of Chinese oceanographic satellites started 
in 2011 with HY-2A, HY-2B (2018), HY-2C (September 21, 2020) and HY-2D planned in 2021. 
All these satellites except model "B" carry a DORIS receiver onboard. 
The objective of HY-2 is to monitor ocean dynamics using microwave sensors to detect 
wind fields at the ocean surface, sea surface height and surface temperature. 
Once in flight, CNES will provide the precise orbit and retrieve the altimetry 
measurements which then contribute to the multi-mission maps of AVISO+ and the 
Copernicus Marine Service. CNES will also distribute  to the IDS Data Centers, 
the raw DORIS data (DORIS RINEX format) and the Precise orbits (SP3 format).

The different instruments will be switched on in the coming days. The final orbit (971 km) 
will be reached in few days, then the commissioning phase will follow (around 3 months).
We'll let you know as soon as HY-2C DORIS data will be delivered to IDS Data Centers.

There are currently 7 flying DORIS satellites contributing to IDS :
CryoSat-2 , HY-2A, SARAL/Altika, Jason3, Sentinel3A, Sentinel3B, HY-2C



The year 2020 is a great year for DORIS, the system celebrates its 30th anniversary and 2 new missions 
join the constellation. Also in the future, many news missions are scheduled with the following launches to come:

* Jason CS1/Sentinel 6A (Copernicus- ESA/Eumetsat<http://www.eumetsat.de/>/EU/Cnes<http://www.cnes.fr/>/
Noaa<http://www.noaa.gov/>/Nasa<http://www.na=sa.gov/>) with DGXX-S, LRA , GPS is to be launched in November 2020,
then JasonCS2/Sentinel6B is planned in 2025

* HY-2D (CNSA/NSOAS) with Doris DGXX-S + LRA + GPS is planned for May 2021, and HY2 E-F-G-H are waiting for approval.

* SWOT (Surface Water Ocean Topography)  is foreseen for 2021 (DGXX-S + GPS + LRA ).

is planned for 2024 (Doris DGXX-S with mini USO + LRA + GPS) (nominal lifetime of 7 years).
