(Message sent by the OSTST Project Scientists) The Jason-3 spacecraft has been successfully launched from=20 Vandenberg Air Force Base (California, U.S.A) yesterday at 18:42 UTC,=20 January 17, 2016. Satellite separation from the launcher and solar array de= ployment=20 were performed about one hour later. The spacecraft was launched with good = precision on its injection orbit, and the Earth terminal network is working smoothly.=20 Initial telemetry reports show that all systems are in excellent health. Since the launch, flight operations have been performed nominally.=20 The CNES DORIS instrument was turned on this morning (January 18) at 05:40 = UTC. The altimeter will be switched ON tomorrow (January 19) at 16:10 UTC and th= e AMR (Advanced Microwave Radiometer) and GPSP (GPS Receiver) on Tuesday morning. The final orbit is expected to be reached 18 days after launch,=20 with the beginning of cycle-0 on February 4th. Soon thereafter we hope t= o release=20 near real-time OGDR (Operational Geophysical Data Records) data to the Jaso= n-3 PIs. Congratulations to the Jason-3 teams at CNES, NASA, JPL, EUMETSAT & NOAA, a= nd of course to Space-X and Thales Alenia!
