The 23rd General Assembly of the ILRS and meetings of the ILRS Governing Board and the respective Working Groups of the ILRS will be held during the week of the workshop. A trip to the Geodetic Observatory Wettzell and an introduction to the TWIN VLBI project is also in preparation. Workshop Goals: The growing number of satellites requesting SLR support, the new successful One-Way laser ranging missions and the recent progress in optical Time Transfer have added much to the importance of the laser ranging technique. At the same time new satellite missions like GOCE provide a wealth of new observations for better models of the Earth gravity field, the reference system and their dynamics. On the other hand the diversity and complexity of the laser ranging facilities have substantially increased. This workshop will facilitate presentations and discussions of the latest develop ments and results of the research and the laser ranging techniques. Suggested Program Topics: - Scientific Achievements, Applications, and Future Requirements - Laser Technology - Ranging Receivers - Automation and Control Systems - Improved and Upgraded Systems (poster) - Lunar Laser Ranging - Engineering and Q/C Analysis - System Calibration Techniques - Targets, Signatures and Biases - Atmospheric Correction and Multiwavelength Ranging - Advanced Systems and Techniques - Transponder, Laser Altimetry and Time Transfer Techniques - Operational Issues Furthermore we encourage everyone to propose additional sessions or presentations on other timely laser ranging matters. Important Dates: - Abstract Deadline: March 31, 2011 Additional information on the workshop, the hotel, the area, the venue, etc. can be found at the following web page: http://www.fs.wettzell.de/veranstaltungen/slr/17thlaserworkshop/index.html Further questions should be addressed to 17workshop@fs.wettzell.de or via fax to "17 workshop-laser" (+49 9941 603222). A Second Circular will be issued around December 2010.
