****************************************************************************** dorismail 09-Apr-2010 09:58:45 Message No 0657 ****************************************************************************** Author: "Ferrage Pascale" Subject: Succesful launch for Cryosat2 ice Satellite Dear colleagues, The ESA's CryoSat-2 ice satellite was successfully launched yesterday: April 8, 2010 at 15:57 CEST (13:57 UTC) from Kazakhstan, on a Dnepr rocket. CryoSat-2 is the Europe's first mission dedicated for studying the Earth's ice. The launch of Cryosat-2 successfully occurred yesterday putting the satellite on its final orbit. The DORIS equipement will be switched ON this afternoon, and the first DORIS data will be processed on Sunday the 11th. CryoSat-2 DORIS data will be delivered to IDS Data Centers in the regular DORIS format (after orbit processing): ftp://ftp.ids-doris.org/pub/ids/data/doris22.fmt and also in the RINEX format (before orbit processing, thus with a shorter delay when routine processing is achieved): ftp://ftp.ids-doris.org/pub/ids/data/RINEX_DORIS.pdf First Rinex data should be available on Monday April 12, and MOE should start in the same time. As CryoSat-2 cycle period is 369 days, the POE will be performed on every arc of 7 days, the corresponding DORIS1B data files should be available 20 days later, and POE 30 days later (in routine mode). So, the first arc should correspond to week 15 (April 11-17), and the first DORIS1B data file should be available mid May. Further information is available on the following web sites: http://www.esa.int/SPECIALS/Cryosat/ http://www.aviso.oceanobs.com/en/news/index.html There are currently 6 flying DORIS satellites contributing to IDS : SPOT-4 and 5, ENVISAT, Jason-1 , Jason-2 , and CryoSat-2 New missions are scheduled with the following launches to come: - SARAL, ISRO/CNES, will embark the AltiKa altimeter as well as a Doris instrument www.aviso.oceanobs.com/en/missions/future-missions/saral/index.html January 2011 - HY-2A, CNSA/CNES, Chinese altimetry mission with a DORIS receiver www.aviso.oceanobs.com/en/missions/future-missions/hy-2/index.html June 2011 - Sentinel 3, part of ESA's contribution to GMES is for a global ocean and land monitoring mission which includes an altimetry instrument package http://www.esa.int/esaLP/SEMTST4KXMF_LPgmes_0.html April 2013 -Jason3, Cnes/Eumetsat/Noaa, ocean altimetry satellite will ensure continuity with Jason-2 http://www.aviso.oceanobs.com/en/missions/future-missions/jason-3/index. html Summer 2013 - SWOT (Surface Water Ocean Topography), CNES/NASA, oceanography & hydrology mission http://www.aviso.oceanobs.com/en/missions/future-missions/swot/index.htm l 2018 We will keep you informed on the status of the mission.
