Best regards Zuheir Altamimi Claude Boucher Richard Gross G15: Terrestrial Reference Systems: Theory, Realizations and Applications Terrestrial Reference System (TRS) issues are basic domains of geodesy and its links to astronomy and geodynamics. It plays a key role in the modeling and estimation of the motion of the Earth in space, as well as the inner deformations of the various components of the Earth system at the various spatial and temporal scales. Recent achievements in theoretical as well as conventional aspects need to be well explained, promoted but also critically investigated for possible future improvements. Joint work between IAU and IUGG, as well as the new release of IERS Conventions are good illustrations for this point. Numerous new research areas are offered in this domain. Some topics are advertised for this session, including relativistic modeling of TRS, which refer to the motion of a rotating, massive and deformable Earth; the transformation formulas between TRS and celestial systems; precise definition of the center of mass or spatial rotation; links with time scales (TCG, TT…); models for the realizations of TRS, including hierarchical combinations of space geodetic techniques, multi-technique analysis or determination of global dynamical Earth models as well as the definition of the International Terrestrial Reference System (ITRS). The progress achieved in the primary realization of the ITRS, namely the ITRF is another aspect considered for this session. In the elaboration of their solutions submitted to the ITRF2008, the technique centers have made significant improvements and are hence encouraged to contribute to this session. Contributions are also solicited from groups who directly use the ITRF in their applications, such as Precise Orbit Determination, satellite altimetry, mean sea level variations and other Earth science activities. User views or requirements regarding TRS/TRF qualities and the role of TRS in GEO and GGOS are of great interest to this session. -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Zuheir Altamimi Email : altamimi@ensg.ign.fr Institut Geographique National Phone : 33 1 64 15 32 55 ENSG/LAREG FAX : 33 1 64 15 32 53 6-8 Avenue Blaise Pascal 77455 Champs-sur-Marne, FRANCE ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Please do not reply directly to this message, but send comments and suggestions to IDS.central.bureau@cls.fr
