****************************************************************************** dorismail 16-Mar-2009 12:30:14 Message No 0590 ****************************************************************************** Author: "Tavernier Gilles" Subject: New IDS Governing Board Dear colleagues, Since the IDS was established in 2003, I had the pleasure and honor to chair its Governing Board. The DORIS system can be proud of its network which has been upgraded in the past years: improved antennae stability, new third generation beacons, local ties... The scientific community can be grateful to our friends and colleagues all around the world, who take care of the stations. With such a network and 5 spacecrafts (6 since June 2008) collecting accurate measurements, analysis work became very promising. Thanks to the impulse of our successive Analysis Coordinators, Martine Feissel-Vernier and Frank Lemoine, new analysis centers have joined the two centers who contributed to ITRF 2000 and 2005. For the first time, an IDS weekly combined solution series has been produced as a DORIS contribution to the ITRF2008 call for participation. This combination is based on the contributions of six analysis centers - GOP (Geodetic Observatory Pecny); INASAN (Institute for Astronomy Russian Academy of Sciences); LCA; IGN; GAU (Geoscience Australia), and ESA (European Space Operations Center). It is limited to the period 2003-2008 but it should be extended up to 1993 soon. Two new analysis centers are on the way to contribute, NASA/GSFC and The University of Newcastle. At the next IDS AWG planned in Paris on March 23-24, 2009, we will review the progress on the contributions of the analysis centers and the status of the IDS combination. As you know data from all spacecrafts as well as products from the different analysis centers are available at our two operational data centers: NASA/CDDIS (Carey Noll) and IGN (Bruno Garayt). Thank you so much Carey and Bruno. All information and links about IDS are available on the website continuously improved and updated by the Central Bureau. I want to thank the past governing board for the promising achievements of our young service. I recently moved to a new job, being involved in outreach and education within CNES. Pascale Ferrage is now in charge of IDS within the CNES DORIS team. We worked together for several months and I'm sure she'll do a nice job. A new Governing Board has been elected for the 2009-2012 term: - Chairperson and Analysis Centers representative: Pascal Willis (IGN/IPGP) - Data Centers representative: Carey Noll (NASA/GSFC) - Analysis Coordinator: Frank Lemoine (NASA/GSFC) - Network representative: Herve Fagard (IGN) - Member at large: John Ries (UTEX/CSR) - Member at large: Pascale Ferrage (CNES) - Director of the Central Bureau: Laurent Soudarin (CLS) - Representative of the IAG: Michiel Otten (ESA/ESOC) - Representative of the IERS: TBD Congratulation to the new Governing Board and long life to IDS!
