Fagard" Subject: Antenna raising at Hartebeesthoek (South Africa) Dear Colleagues, The antenna at Hartebeesthoek (South Africa), installed since August 2000 on an iron pipe, was replaced on November 22, 2006 with a brand new one, same model (Starec). It is supported by the same metal pipe, but longer threaded rods were used to support the upper triangular plate, hence raising the antenna base by about 20 cm. This modification, combined with the drilling of holes in the lower triangular plate, allowed to replace the antenna cables with new ones without a bent end connector. The acronym for the new reference point is HBMB. The DOMES number for the new antenna reference point is 30302S008. The vector from the former antenna reference point (HBLB, identical to HBKB) to the new reference point (HBMB) is dE = 0.003 m; dN = 0.001 m; dh = 0.174 m. Hence the (ITRF2000, 1997.0) coordinates for HBMB: X = 5084653.464 m Y = 2670347.251 m Z = -2768471.040 m (sigma: 3 mm) I remind you that the ITRF2000 velocities for this site are: VX = -0.0012 m/y VY = 0.0198 m/y VZ = 0.0159 m/y As there have been many different antenna positions at this site, it is worth listing them hereafter: Code DOMES Model Start End Comment HBKA S202 Alcatel 1988-03-10 1997-05-26 HBLA S005 Alcatel 1997-05-30 2000-08-07 HBKB S006 Starec 2000-08-10 2005-09-11 HBLB S006 Starec 2005-09-12 2006-11-21 See note below HBMB S008 Starec 2006-11-22 (current) Note: the acronym change - from HBKB to HBLB - in September 2005 was required by the change in the beacon status: from standard orbit determination beacon to master beacon. Since there was no physical change on the antenna (which was not moved nor replaced) both points are exactly identical, hence the unchanged DOMES number. On the other hand, please note that the beacon at this site has not transmitted since September 18. Repair is under way and transmissions from the new point "HBMB" should resume in January 2007.
