****************************************************************************** DORISMail 20-Jul-2005 14:43:07 Message No 0396 ****************************************************************************** Author: Carey Noll Subject: Update on CONT05 Experiment Author: Mike Pearlman/CfA Plans are underway for the CONT 05 campaign on September 12 - 27, 2005. Aside from the traditional VLBI measurements, the other services ILRS, IGS and IDS have been invited by the IERS and the IVS to participate. This is an opportunity to collect data and auxilliary data from each of the space geodetic techniques for combination and comparison studies. The campaign would include: 1. Continuous VLBI observations during 2 weeks 2. SLR observations on GPS/GLONASS satellites and LEOs with more than one tracking technique (e.g. CHAMP, JASON-1, GRACE-1&2) 3. DORIS: Best possible tracking at co-location sites with highest priority on the tracking of multi-technique satellites. 4. GPS: Best tracking at co-location sites, making sure, that the height differences between GPS, VLBI, WVR, meteo sensor reference points are known or measured. 5. WVR: As many water vapor radiometers as possible at VLBI sites 6. Meteo: Gather precise meteo info at least at all co-location sites 7. Clocks: Effort to try to run the VLBI and GPS receivers with the same clock (temperature-stabilized ?) in order to compare the clock biases and drifts, etc. 8. Gravity measurements: TBD A coordination group is being formed with representatives from all of the services: - IERS : Markus Rothacher - VLBI : Dirk Behrend + Axel Nothnagel + Arthur Niell - SLR : Mike Pearlman + Ron Noomen - DORIS: Pascal Willis + Martine Feissel - GPS : Gerd Gendt + Angie Moore - WVR : Arthur Niell The tasks of the group should be: 1. Inform the individual technique services about the CONT'05 activities 2. Identify the contributions of the Services to CONT'05 Campaign 3. Plan and coordinate the activities. etc. Regards, Mike ----- Dr. Michael R. Pearlman Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics 60 Garden St. Cambridge MA 02138 tel. (617) 495-7481 fax.
