****************************************************************************** DORISMail 06-Jul-2005 10:40:18 Message No 0393 ****************************************************************************** Author: "H. Fagard" Subject: DORIS station upgrade at Belgrano (Antarctica) Dear Colleagues, The DORIS station "Belgrano", installed by the IAA (Instituto Antártico Argentino) and the German AWI (Alfred-Wegener Institute) in February 2004 (see DORISmail No 0306), has been operating during 4 months only because of a failure of the beacon. Please note that the name of the Argentine base where our equipment is located is "Belgrano II", not "General Belgrano" as said in the DORISmail No 0306. This DORIS station has been completely renovated: a third generation beacon was installed, and the antenna was moved to a new location, by IAA and AWI in February 2005. The antenna is supported by a 2 meter high, 30 cm sided very rigid metal tower, set on a 70 cm sided concrete block built on a granite outcrop. This new location is about 80 m away from the former one. Transmissions resumed on February 21, 2005. The DOMES number for the new antenna reference point is 66018S002, and its acronym is BEMB. Both antenna locations - the former one: BELB and the new one: BEMB - were accurately connected to the permanent GPS station BELG which has been operating for about 7 years at this site. The resulting coordinates, expressed in the ITRF2000 reference frame at epoch 2005.126 (day 046 of 2005), are: BELB (former antenna location): X= 1106057.998 m Y= -763816.822 m Z= -6214233.613 m SigX = 0.01 m SigY = 0.01 m SigZ = 0.02 m BEMB (current antenna location): X= 1106046.611 m Y= -763739.010 m Z= -6214243.192 m SigX = 0.01 m SigY = 0.01 m SigZ = 0.02 m The best currently available velocities for this site are: VX = 0.0111 m/y VY = -0.0028 m/y VZ = 0.0040 m/y SigVX = 0.004 m/y SigVY = 0.004 m/y SigVZ = 0.010 m/y The coordinates for BELG - which were used to get the above coordinates for BELB and BEMB - as well as the above velocities, are preliminary values derived from observations of the permanent GPS station BELG operated by the AWI, resulting from the processing of GPS data from a 5-year-interval by the Institute for Planetary Geodesy of the Technical University of Dresden, Germany. The values for the sigmas are also preliminary. The vector between the former and current locations of the DORIS antenna is: BELB --> BEMB dX = -11.387 m dY = 77.812 m dZ = -9.579 m SigdX = 1 mm SigdY = 1 mm SigdZ = 2 mm Best regards, Herve Fagard -- ====================================================================== Herve FAGARD e-mail : herve.fagard@ign.fr Institut Geographique National 94165 SAINT-MANDE CEDEX PHONE : + 33 1 43 98 81 48 FRANCE FAX : + 33 1 43 98 84 50 ====================================================================== Please do not reply directly to this message, but send comments and suggestions to IDS.central.bureau@cls.fr
