****************************************************************************** DORISMail 08-Jun-2005 16:00:44 Message No 0386 ****************************************************************************** Author: "H. Fagard" Subject: Removal of the DORIS station at Purple Mountain (China) Dear Colleagues, The DORIS station at Purple Mountain, China (PURA) was turned to standby on February 4, 2005, in order to allow the Jiufeng station (JIUB) to be switched to the central frequencies transmitting mode. Although Jiufeng was installed in December 2003, it provided little data in 2004 because of a failure of the 2 GHz channel of the beacon at the beginning of the year. After a retrofitted unit was sent to Jiufeng, it started transmitting again on February 22, 2005 and has been operating successfully since then. All the DORIS equipment at Purple Montain will now be removed. I wish to express our gratitude to the Purple Montain Observatory, and especially to Mr Ding Yuanjun for taking good care of the DORIS station for more than 15 years.
