Fagard" Subject: Station renovation at Rothera (Antarctica) Dear Colleagues, The DORIS station at Rothera (UK base on Adelaïde Island, Antarctic peninsula), initially installed in 1992, has been moved to a new location and completely renovated. The new site is located 260 m south of the former one. The new Starec antenna is supported by a 40 cm sided, 1.5 m high concrete pillar, anchored 50 cm deep into the bedrock. The new beacon is a third generation one. The former antenna (ROTA, Alcatel type) was removed on February 25, but in fact transmissions had stopped at the end of March 2004 because of a failure of the old beacon. The new beacon started transmitting on March 1st, 2005. The acronym for the new reference point is ROTB. The DOMES number for the new antenna reference point is 66007S002. Its coordinates (ITRF2000, 1997.0), derived from a connection to the former antenna ROTA, are: X = 909182.550 m Y = -2264787.378 m Z = -5873052.282 m (sigma: 1 cm) The ITRF2000 velocities for this site are: VX = 0.0154 m/y VY = -0.0025 m/y VZ = 0.0020 m/y SigVX = 0.0009 m/y SigVY = 0.0012 m/y SigVZ = 0.0019 m/y Best regards, Herve Fagard -- ====================================================================== Herve FAGARD e-mail : herve.fagard@ign.fr Institut Geographique National 94165 SAINT-MANDE CEDEX PHONE : + 33 1 43 98 81 48 FRANCE FAX : + 33 1 43 98 84 50 ====================================================================== Please do not reply directly to this message, but send comments and suggestions to IDS.central.bureau@cls.fr
