Fagard" Subject: New station at Virginia Key (Florida, USA) Dear Colleagues, A new DORIS station has been installed in the premises of the Rosenstiel School of the Marine Academy of Sciences (RSMAS) located on Virginia Key, near Miami, Florida, USA. The DORIS equipment consists of a third generation beacon and a Starec antenna. The antenna is supported by a 1 meter high, 30 cm sided very rigid metal tower, bolted on the upper terrace of a three-storey building, above one of the load-bearing concrete pillars. The name of the station is "Miami" and its acronym in the data files is MIAB. Transmissions started on February 10, 2005. The beacon transmits in nominal frequencies mode. The DOMES number for the antenna reference point is 49914S003. The following ITRF2000 @ 1997.0 coordinates for the DORIS antenna reference point, were derived from the connection to the nearby MIA3 permanent GPS station, part of the CORS network: X= 982220.905 m Y= -5664702.377 m Z= 2752418.738 m SigX = 0.01 m SigY = 0.01 m SigZ = 0.01 m The ITRF2000 velocities for this site are : VX = -0.0102 m/y VY = -0.0015 m/y VZ = 0.0015 m/y SigVX = 0.0009 m/y SigVY = 0.0021 m/y SigVZ = 0.0011 m/y This new station, which is co-located with several permanent GPS stations and a tide gauge, replaces the Richmond station (RIDA) which stopped transmitting on February 9, 2005 and will soon be removed.
