****************************************************************************** DORISMail 15-Feb-2005 12:19:37 Message No 0371 ****************************************************************************** Author: "H. Fagard" Subject: New station at Male (Maldives) Dear Colleagues, A new DORIS station has been installed in the premises of the Department of Meteorology located near Male airport, Hulhule Island, Maldives. The DORIS equipment consists of a third generation beacon and a Starec antenna. The antenna is supported by a 2 meter high, 30 cm sided very rigid metal tower, set on a 90 cm sided, 40 cm high and about 1 m deep concrete block. The name of the station is "Male" and its acronym in the data files is MALB. Transmissions started on January 15, 2005. The beacon transmits in shifted frequency mode, with K=-12 i.e.: F1 (400 MHz channel) = 401 248 335.421 Hz F2 (2 GHz channel) = 2 036 241 552.651 Hz The DOMES number for the antenna reference point is 22901S002. The geodetic connection between the DORIS antenna and the nearby IGS station MALD located at the tide gauge (installed by the University of Hawaii's Pacific GPS Facility) was measured. Nevertheless, due to a problem in data delivery from the IGS station MALD, the following ITRF2000 @ 2005.0 approximate coordinates for the antenna reference point, were computed with the Bernese software using data from four surrounding IGS stations: X= 1803683.188 m Y= 6100015.268 m Z= 463192.919 m SigX = 0.01 m SigY = 0.02 m SigZ = 0.01 m The following velocities for this site were taken from http://sideshow.jpl.nasa.gov/mbh/all/table.txt : VX = -0.0455 m/y VY = 0.0052 m/y VZ = 0.0313 m/y SigVX = 0.0012 m/y SigVY = 0.0020 m/y SigVZ = 0.0005 m/y I would like to express my special thanks and congratulations to our Maldivian colleagues, whose very high motivation and efficiency permitted to successfully carry out this installation as scheduled, less than three weeks after the December 26 tsunami hit the country.
