****************************************************************************** DORISMail 20-Jan-2005 18:19:20 Message No 0366 ****************************************************************************** Author: Tavernier Gilles Subject: News about IDS and DORIS Dear colleagues, On behalf of the IDS Governing Board and Central Bureau I wish you a very Happy New Year. I would also like to send our sympathy to our colleagues around the Indian Ocean, hoping that they, their families and colleagues have not suffered from the recent tsunami. As you know, the DORIS chain 2 receiver on-board TOPEX encountered an incident on November 1, 2004. The procedures run to restart this chain were not sucessfull. Attempts to restart the chain 1 receiver also failed. DORIS has been functionning more than 12 years on-board TOPEX, far beyond the instrument and spacecraft nominal lifetime. POD is now computed using only Laser measurements. Hopefully, a new DORIS receiver will fly this year on-board CRYOSAT and provide a new set a data. Everybody in ESA and CNES is working hard preparing for the launch. In other respects, a new DORIS flight software was uploaded on-board ENVISAT on October 12, 2004 (start of arc 122). The receiver is now operating in the so called "self-programming mode" instead of "waiting mode", thus enabling to perform more measurements. The POD team noticed an increase of the residuals, which is normal taking the increased number of low elevation measurements into account. We now expect feed-back from the IDS Analysis Centers about ENVISAT results. I remind you that the preparation of the IDS Annual Report was discussed at the last IDS Governing meeting (http://ids.cls.fr/html/report/reports.html) in St Peterburgh, FL in November 2004. The Central Bureau has already received the contribution of Hervé Fagard (network) and Pascal Willis (IGN/JPL Analysis Center), and a reference from John Ries. We would like to receive the other contributions by February 10: - IDS coordination - Data flow coordination (Carey Noll) - Analysis coordination (Martine Feissel-Vernier) - Stations Selection Group (Frank Lemoine) - Network Stations (Hervé Fagard) OK - Data Centers (Carey Noll and Edouard Gaulué) - Analysis Centers - IGN/JPL (Pascal Willis) OK - CLS/LEGOS (Laurent Soudarin) - other Analysis Centers willing to contribute are welcome ... - References and publications (only published articles : all) Thanks in advance for your help, Gilles Gilles TAVERNIER _____________________________________________________ CNES DCT/PO/AL - Bpi 2002 Phone : 33 - (0)5 61 27 37 76 18, avenue Edouard Belin Fax : 33 - (0)5 61 28 25 95 31 401 TOULOUSE CEDEX 9 Email : Gilles.Tavernier@cnes.fr _____________________________________________________ Please do not reply directly to this message, but send comments and suggestions to IDS.central.bureau@cls.fr
