Subject: [DORISMail] No 0216 : New station at Sal (Cape Verde) ****************************************************************************** DORISMail 17-Jan-2003 13:29:42 Message No 0216 ****************************************************************************** Author: "H. Fagard" Subject: New station at Sal (Cape Verde) Dear Colleagues, A new DORIS station has been installed within the premises of the meteorological station at Sal island, Cape Verde. It replaces the Dakar station which closed two years ago, and offers a slighly better coverage of the Atlantic Ocean. It consists of a third generation beacon and a Starec antenna, installed directly (no tower) on top of one of the 0.3 m sided load-bearing pillars of a 4.5 m high building. The name of the station is "Sal" and its acronym in the data files is SALB. Transmissions started on December 12, 2002. The DOMES number for the antenna reference point is 39601S002. Its approximate coordinates (ITRF2000, 2002.7) are: X= 5626877.21 m Y= -2380936.26 m Z= 1824490.44 m (sigma: 5 cm) No velocities derived from space geodesy measurements are currently available (not even from the nearby IGS station "TGCV" at the tide gauge site, to which the DORIS antenna has been connected).
