****************************************************************************** DORISMail 14-May-2002 15:25:28 Message No 0187 ****************************************************************************** Author: Tavernier Gilles Subject: SPOT5 news After a fully successful launch by Ariane IV from Kourou (French Guyana) SPOT 5 spacecraft has been put into flight configuration with the solar array fully deployed, pointing the earth. Orbit injection occured at 1:50:55 (UTC time) Mai 4, 2002. Shortly later, at 05:22 (UTC) DORIS was switched on. The software initialization was successfully run on an automatic mode. First doppler measurements were acquired on board shortly after, giving confirmation of the good health of the receiver. First on-board navigation and time tagging data were transmitted to the platform and boadcasted toward the ground system at 12:20 (UTC). This information will be used by the SPOT5 system to perform the precise positionning of the spacecraft and of the images that will be made by the various sensors of the payload. After a fully autonomous initialization phase, the receiver is now in its final state. It defines its own programming of the 2 processing units that run in parallel to perform simultaneous measurements over 2 stations. The first preliminary orbit determination with May 5 measurements was carried out on May 7 and show the good quality of the measurements performed by the DORIS instrument: RMS residuals after orbit determination are 0.56 mm/s although the USO as not yet been operating long enough to be fully stabilized. The results obtained are very goods and already of quality from what is currently obtained for Spot4.
