Fagard" Subject: New station at Futuna Dear Colleagues, A new DORIS station has been installed at Futuna (French overseas territories "Wallis et Futuna" in the Pacific ocean), in the premises of the meteorological station. This station should replace the "nearby" (240 km) Wallis station where the antenna stability is not sufficient and would have been very difficult to improve as no bedrock is available. The Wallis station (WALA) was turned to standby on December 8. The new station at Futuna consists of a version 2 beacon and a Starec antenna, which has been installed on top of an iron pipe deeply anchored into the coral ground, and partly embeded in a concrete pillar. The new station started transmitting on December 13. The acronym in the data files for this new station is FUTB. The DOMES number for the antenna reference point is 92902S001. I only have very approximate geocentric coordinates, within a couple of meters: X = -6178322 Y = -202685 Z = -1566024 Best regards, Herve Fagard -- ====================================================================== Herve FAGARD e-mail : herve.fagard@ign.fr Institut Geographique National 94165 SAINT-MANDE CEDEX PHONE : + 33 1 43 98 81 48 FRANCE FAX : + 33 1 43 98 84 50 ======================================================================
