****************************************************************************** DORIS Electronic Mail Fri Jan 29 18:42:41 WET 1999 Message Number 0067 ****************************************************************************** Author: Murielle Costes (CNES) Subject: Happy New Year from CNES The DORIS System Team wishes all the DORIS community an happy new year. We hope that the scientific teams using the DORIS data will have as interesting results as those presented in the 1998 meetings. 1998 has been the successful year for DORIS-DIODE/SPOT4: for the first time, a real time orbit determination is performed on-board with an accuracy of a few meters (even through maneuvers, availability over 99.7% and only one failure due to SEU in 10 months, then continuously operating for 7 months until now). DORIS is already an international scientific system thanks to many countries contributing either to the network (52 beacons all over the world, and more soon) or to DORIS data processing and scientific studies related to these data. There is a demand for developing the international nature of DORIS: why not an IDS, International DORIS Service in 1999? With dual channels DORIS receivers on board new satellites, ENVISAT (mid 2000) and JASON-1 (may 2000), the DORIS accuracy should increase and enable better observation of physic phenomenon. Recently, the DORIS team has been congratulated by the U.S. Department of Interior and the NASA for his contribution to the TOPEX/POSEIDON mission. The international TOPEX/POSEIDON Team was selected to receive the prestigious William T. Pecora Award which recognizes outstanding contributions to the understanding of the Earth by means of remote sensing. The DORIS project dedicates this award to all the people involved. Happy new year. Murielle [Mailed From: Pascal Willis ]
